The <a title=\"Ahwahnee Principles\" href=\"ahwahnee\/principles\">Ahwahnee Principles<\/a> \u2014 which underpin the Local Government Commission&#8217;s work on livable, sustainable communities \u2014 address the issue of transportation in numerous ways:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Communities should be scaled so that housing, jobs, daily needs and other activities are within easy walking distance of each other and of transit stops.<\/li>\n<li>The community should have a vital core area that combines commercial, civic, cultural and recreational uses.<\/li>\n<li>Public spaces should be designed to encourage active and diverse public use at all hours.<\/li>\n<li>Streets, pedestrian paths and bike paths should constitute a cohesive network of fully connected and interesting routes to all destinations.
