As a result, a disproportionately large number of pedestrians are killed and injured in California and across the nation each year. Children and seniors, the most vulnerable users of streets and sidewalks, are often at greatest risk.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"conventional vs traditional streets\" src=\"http:\/\/mirror.lgc.org\/wordpress\/images\/freepub\/trad_vs_conv.jpg\" width=\"340\" height=\"114\" \/><\/center>But what accounts for these numbers?
